As hard as we try to protect them from the world and all the dangers that surround it, all kicks that are worn eventually go the way of beaters. Unless you’re a collector who prefers to display their kicks rather than wear them or you do wear and live in a protective bubble (both figuratively and literally), the day when a pair of highly prized kicks finally becomes an everyday pair is not a day to mourn but rather a day to remember all the good times you shared with them. Kicks On Fire contributor Jason Moosikkamol shares a story of how his pair of “True Blue” Air Jordan 3s went from the apple of his eye to its final resting place.
Beaters. We never actually plan for shoes to become beaters, but all that wear and tear eventually becomes hard to maintain. Initially, you might immediately brush off every scuff, but they build up, and potentially drop a “V” from that coveted “VVVNDS” status. However, beaters shouldn’t be frowned upon. They’re shoes with a long history, character, and personality behind them.
Much like driving a brand new car off the lot, un-deadstocking your new kicks comes with a sharp decline in resale value. But you’re feeling fly, and rocking your new sneakers, like you should. Walk like a penguin, stuff socks in the fronts, do anything to keep your shoes in pristine condition. And hope that some fool won’t step on them. That would warrant a meltdown of Buggin’ Out proportions.
